Manufactured Stone Veneer
Manufactured Stone Veneer is man made stone produced from light weight concrete. It is formed and colored to look like real stone. It can be much faster to lay and does not require a foundation ledge to lay on. Just as in other masonry applications, water penetration needs to be anticipated and managed. The mason starts by applying 2 water resistant barriers to the substrate such as tyvek and felt paper properly lapped to shed water. An alternate system which gives the best result is a layer of felt paper and then a layer of Driwall Rainscreen. Stainless Steel lath is then properly fastened to the substrate and a scratch coat of mortar is applied to the wall and let dry. Next the stone is adhered to the scratch coat with a second layer of mortar. See more in depth instructions at the manufacturers web sites below.
